The European Free Trade Association (EFTA)
EFTA is an international organisation comprising four states: The Republic of Iceland, The Principality of Liechtenstein, The Kingdom of Norway and the Swiss Confederation. EFTA has headquarters in Geneva and offices in Brussels and Luxembourg.
The activities of EFTA can be
divided into three main areas:
- Monitoring and management of relationships between
the EFTA States on the basis of the EFTA Convention which is the legal basis
of the Association.
- Development and maintenance of relations with
non-EU countries.
- The member states (except Switzerland) have
structured their relations with the EU in the form of Agreement on the
European Economic Area (the EEA) through which they participate in the EU
Single Market.
