| You are here: Taxation > ID checks of foreign nationals | | | ID checks of foreign nationalsThe Norwegian Tax Administration introduces new procedures for ID checks of foreign nationals From 1 February 2012, ID checks, the receipt of notifications of moving to Norway and applications for tax deduction cards will be dealt with by selected tax offices. The reason for this new system is to increase security and reduce the number of false identities. Foreign workers who come to Norway must go in person to a tax office to obtain a tax deduction card. If they plan to stay here for more than six months, they must also notify the authorities of the move. Everyone who wishes to notify a move to Norway and everyone who wishes to obtain a tax deduction card must go in person to one of the following tax offices. - Tax Norway East: Oslo, Sandvika, Lillestrøm, Gjøvik, Fredrikstad, Hamar and Tynset
- Tax Norway South: Drammen, Kristiansand, Skien, Tønsberg, Gol, Lyngdal and Arendal
- Tax Norway West: Førde, Sogndal, Bergen, Haugesund, Egersund, Stavanger, Nordfjordeid and Odda
- Tax Norway Central Norway: Trondheim, Ålesund, Kristiansund, Namsos, Steinkjer, Molde and Hitra
- Tax Norway North: Kirkenes, Hammerfest, Alta, Tromsø, Harstad, Bodø, Mo i Rana, Brønnøysund, Svolvær, Vadsø, Sortland and Narvik
Applicants must have the following documentation with them if they are applying for a tax deduction card: Nordic nationals - A passport
- or a valid driving licence together with a transcript from the population register in the applicant's home country. The transcript must not be older than three months.
- Applicants should bring an employment contract, a written offer of employment or documentation of a Norwegian-registered business.
EEA nationals · A passport or approved ID card. · Applicants should bring an employment contract, a written offer of employment or documentation of a Norwegian-registered business. Employers have an independent responsibility for ensuring that all their employees are entitled to work in Norway. Any questions must be addressed to the immigration authorities. Nationals from outside the EEA area - Applicants should bring an employment contract, a written offer of employment or documentation of a Norwegian-registered business.

- or other approved ID for Nordic or EEA nationals
- Documented grounds for residence, such as:
- A residence permit for six months or more
- A registration certificate for EEA nationals
- Documentation of the period of residence, such as:
- an employment contract / written offer of employment for more than six months (in the case of assignments for staffing enterprises you must have a confirmation of an assignment lasting for six months or more)
- a contract for the lease/purchase of a house/apartment
- When moving together with children under the age of 18
- For Nordic nationals with children under the age of 18: If both parents have not signed the notification of the move, the person in question must bring along a declaration of consent from the parent not present or documentation of parental responsibility from his/her home country.
- In certain cases, an approved marriage certificate/birth certificate must be brought along.
