R&D collaboration

This topic covers two categories of R&D support programmes; National R&D programmes and the programmes of the European Union.

When initiating Research and Development activities, companies in Norway will in certain cases qualify for support from national or trans national programmes.

The rationale behind this kind of support is primarily that the government wants to stimulate the development and utilisation of new technologies and methodologies.
Hence, the support schemes promote early adoption of new technology, documentation and transfer or 'best practice', exchange of competence within networks of companies, and similar projects. In general, there are two categories of R&D support programmes.
Most national R&D programmes are administered by the Research Council of Norway. The other main group are the programmes of the European Union, where Norway participate through the EEA membership.
